S1 E10: The Conscious and Unconscious Mind

The conscious mind is:

  • Our awareness

  • Our logical thinking, our analyzing

  • Our thoughts that we are aware of that we are thinking

  • We can control the thoughts of the conscious mind when we are aware of them

  • Like we can tell ourselves to STOP thinking of a particular thing and change to something else

  • Our conscious mind’s thoughts can affect our feelings

  • Our conscious mind houses our short term memory – going into the kitchen to get....

  • Our conscious mind is less than 10% of our total mind

The subconscious and unconscious mind:

  • Between 90 to 95% of our mind is subconscious and unconscious

  • It is set by the age of 35

  • Kids up to age 7 are fully in their subconscious and unconscious mind and that is why so many childhood issues take a lot of work to resolve, they are firmly implanted there The unconscious mind is about our instincts

  • The subconscious is about intuition

  • Our habits are in the subconscious mind and can be broken and reprogrammed

  • Our imagination

  • Our deep feelings

  • Our underlying beliefs sit here

  • Our permanent memories are located here

  • Our subconscious mind cannot tell what is actually real and what is not true

  • For example, dreams – they seem so real but they are not

  • It is very powerful because it controls you without your awareness

  • It influences our patterns of behaviour

  • Understands emotions, not language

  • Visualizations with feelings are part of the subconscious mind

  • We can retrieve memories and beliefs from the subconscious mind

  • The unconscious mind is where stuff is buried very deeply

  • Our instincts live there

  • Traumas that we are not remembering

  • But it can still influence us

  • It is automatic

  • We can access the unconscious mind but is is harder to do than the subconscious mind

How is this connected to our spiritual growth?

  • Our subconscious mind holds the key to our growth

  • It can limit our thinking and what we know we believe

  • We can hold many limiting beliefs and with those, we cannot grow

  • In order to grow spiritually, our mind has to be open and unlimited

  • Reprogramming our subconscious mind helps our growth

The podcast gives several examples of ways to access our subconscious mind. We go through a couple of practical exercises that help us to change thoughts and beliefs that do not serve us.
